Review: Signz (Morganisation)

#1,660: It's a busy time for Dave Scott-Morgan and consequently Morganisation and their latest studio offering Signz (Grimm Doo Records #GRR222) is another fine example of his songwriting prowess and the former Uglys, BallsMagnum and ELO man continues to construct relevant songs whether they continue on familiar themes or reflect his opinion in fine social commentary. Morganisation have certainly strengthened their ELO footprint with bassist Martin Smith in their ranks alongside co-producer/guitarist Matt O'Malley and this twelve song opus hits several highs. The influence of Bob Dylan abounds in places (as usual) and the quirkiness of Dave's lyrics perfectly combine with the variety of styles on offer which makes for a record that is both cohesive and enjoyable yet with an attitude that makes the listener sit up and take notice. "Saturn Has Rings" hails back to the days of EarthRise, "Stuck Inside A Machine" is a real gem and "Tin Eye" oozes ELOesque class. "Squiggle" is fun and poignant considering the recent plandemic as is "Couldn't Make It Up"Signz builds on the excellence of 2020's Made In Britain and demonstrates that Morganisation are on the up and worthy of discovery by a much wider audience at a time when their contemporaries in the ELO universe are relatively quiet. Fave trax: Saturn Has Rings ~ Tin Eye ~ Squiggle. ★★★★★
