Caught Live: The Blow Monkeys @ The Robin 20/03/22
#1,658: Being as they were on the bill alongside ELO for their final UK date at Wembley in July 1986 and due to the participation of Dr. Robert in an interview as part of a forthcoming ELOBF article on that very subject, The Blow Monkeys are the subject of this latest gig review because Yours Truly KJS was in attendance for their recent date at The Robin 2 in nearby Bilston on the evening of Sunday 20th March.
Judging by their entertaining and hugely enjoyable set, there's much more to the musical arsenal of The Blow Monkeys and Robert Howard than familiar hit singles such as "Digging Your Scene", "It Doesn't Have To Be This Way", "Choice?" and "Wait" evidenced by more recent material including "Crying For The Moon", "On The Wings Of the Morning", "The Wild River" (all from their 2017 album The Wild River) and "Time Storm" (from their most recent album Journey To You). A genuine warmth emanated from the good Dr. betwixt songs both towards the audience and his fellow band mates coupled with a refreshing honesty about the biz and his worldview. You might call Dr. Robert quirky and even outspoken but there's no denying such an accomplished band in their element on stage. Go see 'em folks!
The Blow Monkeys are: Robert Howard (Vox/Guitar) ~ Mick Anker (Bass) ~ Neville Henry (Sax/Keys) ~ Crispin Taylor (Drums)
