Review: 4000 Miles To Eden (Bubble Gum Orchestra)
#1,622: Judging by the content of their thirteenth studio album "4000 Miles To Eden", the musical juggernaut that is Michael Laine Hildebrandt and his Bubble Gum Orchestra vehicle is showing no sign of slowing down a decade since their stunning debut with "Out Of This World" with their latest release as Yours Truly KJS/ELOBF also celebrate 10 years of our friendship with MLH & BGO.
"4000 Miles To Eden" is the second BGO album of 2021 and, much like its predecessor "Angel Dreams", takes the listener on a journey exploring the positive worldview of MLH as one encounters his familiar and often invigorating Bubble Gum tunes of love, gratitude and hope riding on a wave of layered vocals and multi-instrumental musings. Starting with the veneer of classic synth on show with opener "Rock Rock Rock Me" there seems to be more prominent evidence of Mike's bass prowess and guitar craft - as ably demonstrate on "I Love Us", "To Be Forever" and "Lullaby". As with all BGO records, there's instant enjoyable vibe with hints of strings across all twelve trax whether they be rock, ballad, disco or perfect pop - as is the case with classic ELO. This is another most agreeable MLH/Bubble Gum Orchestra opus! KJS/ELOBF faves: "To Be Forever", "Long Distance Voyager", "Sunday Afternoon With You", "Our Secret Until Now". ★★★★★
