Caught Live : ELO Again @ Lichfield 04/03/17
#1,247: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! elobf would not be elobf unless it were neutral, unbiased and objective when it comes to covering the growing number of UK based ELO tribute bands. The recent changes in the personnel of ELO Again, although unfortunate, should not preclude elobeatlesforever (elobf) from covering their shows. Hence, Yours Truly KJS made the short trip to the Lichfield Garrick on the evening of Saturday 4th March to have a look and listen to the latest theatre show presented by the new look ELO Again.
A two hour set consisting of 24 classic Jeff Lynne penned ELO songs (plus a certain legendary Chuck Berry rocker) ranging from "10538 Overture" to "When I Was A Boy" certainly had the full house responding in kind to the entertaining show delivered by this particular septet. Essentially, the set list was the same as that as their gig at The Robin 2 back in December 2015 (including the odd shuffle in order) with "Standin' In The Rain" and "Ma Ma Ma Belle" making way for new intro "Tightrope" and the welcome inclusion of "Calling America" ensuring that there was adequate coverage for every ELO studio album bar "Zoom". Fave moments included "Turn To Stone", "Telephone Line", "Rock 'n' Roll Is King", "Do Ya", "10538 Overture" and "Rockaria!" (with a lovely operatic opening aria by violinist Ruth Rose) but, for me, the real delight was hearing "Calling America" live again and, as ever, "Can't Get It Out Of My Head".
ELO Again performed: "Tightrope" ~ "Evil Woman" ~ "Livin' Thing" ~ "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" ~ "Confusion" ~ "Hold On Tight" ~ "10538 Overture" ~ "Wild West Hero" ~ "Showdown" ~ "Sweet Talkin' Woman" ~ "The Diary Of Horace Wimp" ~ "All Over The World" ~ "Calling America" ~ "Twilight" ~ "Do Ya" ~ "When I Was A Boy" ~ "Shine A Little Love" ~ "Last Train To London" ~ "Telephone Line" ~ "Rock 'n' Roll Is King" ~ "Turn To Stone" ~ "Rockaria!" ~ "Mr. Blue Sky" ~ "Don't Bring Me Down" ~ "Roll Over Beethoven"
