Review: Dust To Stars (Fay & Latta)

#1,234: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Just over four years have elapsed since their last release yet Fay & Latta - a twosome who have dipped their proverbial toes into the elobf universe and supported the likes of Toploader and The Hoosiers down the years - have lost none of their originality and song craft, as ably demonstrated by their polished and hugely enjoyable new album "Dust To Stars".

Having worked with the likes of famed ELO and The Orchestra (former members of ELO & ELO Part II) violinist Mik Kaminski, Groucutt & Haynes, The Beatles Blues & Blue Violin Project (BBBV) in the past, the success of "Dust To Stars" is that Tom Fay and Anneka Fay (formerly Latta) have developed their own style and sound whilst not falling into the trap of trying to repeating an old formula. Various genres are touched upon within this eleven song opus ensuring the duos thoughtful and incisive lyrics are matched by some great tunes, underpinned by the impressive production of Richard Burns. We are treated to atmospheric if not haunting mellow acoustic adventures throughout with the velvety vocals of Anneka and expressive guitar work of hubby Tom for company, highlights for me being "Those Three Words", the lovely instrumental "Time Is Not Our Friend", "In The Rain" (once again reminiscent of Bailey Tzuke) and, thanks to the cracking co-vocal with Wilson, "Rise Or Fall" - a fitting swansong to another notable effort from this talented Yorkshire duo (with a little help from their friends). (9/10)
"Dust To Stars" as well as previous albums "Beauty In Chaos" and "The View From Here" can presently be ordered from the Fay & Latta official website in digital & CD formats thus:

elobeatlesforever (elobf) recommends "Dust To Stars" by Fay & Latta to those enlightened folks who enjoy the music of ELO/Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, The Move, 'Brum Beat', The Beatles and related artistes.

Until next "Time" in the ELO (and related) Universe ... KJS ... 08-Feb-2017
