#1,210: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! With eight (8) tracks and a running time of just over twenty (20) minutes, you'd be forgiven for terming the latest offering from regular elobf reviewee Juan Pablo Mazzolo and his Baby Scream vehicle - temptingly entitled "Life's A Trap" - as a mini-LP or even an extended EP. Yet this, the sixteenth (16th) release in the career of this prolific Argentinian singer/songwriter and performer, manages to reach new heights in its apparent brevity.
"I'm 35 and I feel lost ..."
Within the confines of this compact octet of self penned songs that we are exposed to an array of lyrical gymnastics mixed with acoustic excellence in a release which balances the philosophical with personal angst within a framework of catchy tunes and impressive production. As you listen to "Life's A Trap" for the second, third and fourth time (and thereafter), you feel the influence of Bowie, Lennon and Bolan and even our beloved Jeff Lynne/ELO (as the intricate arrangements within my fave track "Climbing Down" ably demonstrate) throughout what is a quite remarkable, compact and precise piece of work. A lovely record and well worth the $7 asking price. (9/10)
