Caught Live: China Crisis @ Frodsham Festival 10/07/15

#939: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! China Crisis are a band who have absolutely nothing to do with ELO but they do happen to be one of my other fave bands who orbit outside of the ELOBF universe. Their appearance at the Frodsham Festival in Cheshire last night [Friday 10th July] presented an opportunity for me to go see them perform live for the first time in just over twenty years. And the 140 mile round trip was well worth it as the Liverpool band, headed up by co-founders Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon, delivered an impressive set of seventeen songs that included a fair portion of tracks from their classic 1985 LP "Flaunt The Imperfection",  a trio of tracks from their superb new album "Autumn In The Neighbourhood", a selection of their hit singles and a wonderful cover of Carole King's "It's Too Late".
It really was great to see and hear classic album tracks such as "Wall Of God", "Strength Of Character" and "Gift Of Freedom" intermingled with the more recent new material such as "Down Here On Earth" and "Fool". This was a friendly and enjoyable evening. I loved their unique interpretation of "It's Too Late", the tasty encore aperitif of "Diary Of A Hollow Horse" and the live debut of those long awaited new cuts. A very nice gig indeed. I'm already looking forward to the China Crisis gig at The Robin 2 on Sunday 29th November ...

Set list: "African & White" ~ "Wall Of God" ~ "No More Blue Horizons" ~ "Autumn In The Neighbourhood" ~ "Down Here On Earth" ~ "Fool" ~ "You Did Cut Me" ~ "It's Too Late" ~ "Strength Of Character" ~ "Black Man Ray" ~ "Wishful Thinking" ~ "King In A Catholic Style" ~ "Working With Fire & Steel " ~ "Christian" ~ "Tragedy & Mystery" ~ "Gift Of Freedom" ~ "Diary Of A Hollow Horse"

  1. China Crisis are more a mix between a-ha and disco. More new wave than classic rock, but me do like them too.
