Review: Satur-delia (Apology None)

#739: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] were pleased to introduce you to Apology None and their debut album "High Society" back in June 2012. The sixties cartoon festooned psychedelic quintet have just returned with their follow-up release "Satur-delia: The Original Soundtrack" - with a little help from their friends.

This time around, lead Apologist Tim Ross has also enlisted good buddies Joe "Pops" Bredow, Dennis Holseybrook and Owen Hodgson as well as ELO Beatles Forever featured regulars Vinnie Zummo and WelshMansHill to help him deliver another impressive album full of sweet tunes, all with a nod to those musical heroes of the decade that bought us The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Move, The Idle Race, The Moody Blues and a plethora of songs that still fill the airwaves fifty years later here in 2014.
Without a doubt, this is a great collection of tracks reflective of the many musical trends that emanated from the 'Flower Power' generation - and I should know, being a child of late '67! Tim's love of Jeff Lynne and ELO is also evident throughout his compositions and collaborations. Of particular note amongst the sixteen [16] tracks on offer are the Moody Blues influenced opener "For You" plus "Forever For No Reason", the very classy "Go Play In The Sky"Beatlesque rocker "Rip Whirl And Shake" [featuring Birmingham based trio WelshMansHill], 60's instrumental movie throwback "Tony Dickson Theme" [co-written with Dennis Holseybrook] and the magnificent Vinnie Zummo penned "Lend Me A Handle" - resplendent with strings, slide guitar and oozing with The Beatles, ELO, George Harrison and the production values of Jeff Lynne. All in all, this is an extremely groovy LP! [8/10]
