Caught Live : Off The Ground @ The Claregate 17/05/13
#541: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Having only previously having the chance to hear the first half of their set back in April, it was an unmissable opportunity when I found out that Off The Ground were due to play a gig within reasonable walking distance of ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF]'s Wolverhampton HQ at The Claregate. "I can feel a blog coming on!" was uttered one or three times during the gig by a certain band member - and they were right!
With a set list of over thirty songs, this talented local threesome who comprise: Ian Hammond [Guitars/Vocals], Craig Whale [Drums/Vocals] and Adam Willetts [Keyboards/Vocals] produced an excellent night of live music on the night of Friday 17th May.
Their song roster was dominated by their interpretations of songs by the likes of T.Rex with "Ride A White Swan", ELO with "Rock 'n' Roll Is King", The Beatles with "Got To Get You Into My Life", David Bowie with "Starman", Wings with "Live And Let Die", Paul McCartney with "Coming Up" plus the likes of Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, The Sweet and not a few others.
The band again did great justice to one of my favourite Beatles songs "The Long And Winding Road" before serving up, for me, the absolute highlight of the night [besides a certain 1983 ELO classic] when they performed the superb Abbey Road Medley comprising "Golden Slumbers", "Carry That Weight" and "The End". This band has settled down quickly after the demise of Band On The Runn and they continue to impress with their showmanship and professionalism.
