Caught Live (4): Beatles Blues & Blue Violin Project @ The Cavern 10/09/11

#244: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! It was an absolute dream and my great personal pleasure to travel up to Liverpool yesterday [Saturday 10th September] with my ELO gig buddy Christian 'Flares' Evans to attend the much anticipated Beatles Blues and Blue Violin Project (BBBV) gig at the world-famous Cavern Club down in Mathew Street. Folks - it's essential that Yours Truly KJS reminds you of what you are missing if you don't attend a BBBV gig!
This eclectic yet tight folk blues outfit have matured after each performance that I have witnessed. It is [as always] a real pleasure to again witness the craft of ELO violinist Mik Kaminski, the magnificent musical improvisation of guitarist Phil Bates and the soaring yet soulful vocal talents of Tina McBain. Superb performances of Beatles and ELO standards that included "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"; "Evil Woman", "Norwegian Wood", "Midnight Blue" (a moving tribute to the late, great Kelly Groucutt), "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" were mixed in with beautiful folks renditions of less well known songs "Motherless Children" and "One Winters Night"
The fast and furious encore of "Rock 'n' Roll Is King" followed the highlight of the night for this writer "I Am The Walrus" - where I have to admit I have never seen a BBBV audience so animated, engaged and excited. It seemed to naturally right to be hearing the song that inspired Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood to launch the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) being performed at the Beatles birthplace by musicians closely associated with ELO. It was a fantastic night!
L-R: Tina McBain, Phil Bates, KJS, Mik Kaminski
We really should support in numbers these talented musicians as they ply their trade and bring us ELOThe Beatles, Blues and a Blue Violin live! You can find out what The Beatles Blues and Blue Violin Project (BBBV) are up to by clicking on either of these links thus:
