An Evening Without Kelly Groucutt

#14: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Please be advised that the memorial gig for good 'ol Kelly Groucutt has now been announced, as previously mentioned, for Monday 11th May at The Robin 2 in Bilston near Wolverhampton. Here is the link to The Robin 2 Gig Guide so that you can garner the full detail of this benefit concert:

What a weekend that promises to be! First, The Orchestra (former members of ELO & ELO Part II) at Dudley Town Hall on Sunday 10th May and then this gig remembering the musical legacy of Kelly G on the next day in Bilston - truly a West Midlands wonderland of great music!

Take That: Beautiful World #1

#13: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! I did something today that I never thought I'd do. Yours Truly KJS bought a Take That album on CD! There on the shelf at my local supermarket was their 2006 album "Beautiful World".

KJS@ELOBF has a couple of things to say about "Beautiful World". Firstly, it is, in my humble opinion, very good. The two singles "Patience" and "Shine" are superb. The ELOesque "Shine" is a great track. The second thing I would like to say is: Me thinx that this album is actually both Beatlesque and ELOesque. A good addition to the record collection of any ELO fan!

Here Is The News

#12: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Yours Truly KJS remembers all the hullabaloo about the (supposed) satanic messages allegedly found within ELO's 1983 album "Secret Messages" both here in the UK and over the pond in the USA. "Those Secret Messages" have now, with modern technology and without even a turntable, been found to be mostly just lyrics from the album in reverse or backward mode. This interesting video concentrates on the secret messages within "Secret Messages" thus:

I also recall the news coverage and religious protests against the ELO Part II tour in Ireland back in 1991 and I'm told that the same sort of thing happened in certain countries when other ELO albums (including, of course, "Face The Music") were released. A second video about the secret messages found elsewhere in the ELO discography is also available to view via this link thus:

Can't Get It Out Of My Head + Kelly Memorial Gig

#11: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Well, it's been a week since The Beatles Blues & Blue Violin Project gig at The Robin 2 in Bilston featuring Phil Bates, Mik Kaminski and Tina McBain. Yours Truly KJS has to say that it was indeed a musical feast. Some great Blues, some great Beatles covers, especially "Eleanor Rigby"a wonderful taste of previous project The Eleanor Rigby Experience, whose CD (at the time of writing) can still be purchased via the official Phil Bates website.

There were a couple of significant moments that stood out for me. The first was a wonderful acoustic version of "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" - a truly stellar arrangement. The second was Phil's announcement that there is to be a Memorial Concert for Kelly Groucutt, again at The Robin 2, Bilston on Monday 11th May, just a day after the The Orchestra (former members of ELO & ELO Part II) play at Dudley Town Hall on Sunday 10th May (and timed perfectly due to the cancellation of the Peterborough gig).

This is a wonderful opportunity for ELO fans to attend and support an event that will truly remember and celebrate the life and musical pedigree of the late, great Kelly Groucutt! Please keep an eye on ELO Beatles Forever (ELOBF) for further details of this enthralling prospect.

Funeral Thoughts

#10: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Yours Truly KJS has been having a little hiatus this last week. Today (Monday 9th March) is sadly the day of the funeral for the late, great Michael 'Kelly' Groucutt and my thoughts continue to go out to his wife Anna, brother John and all of the family.

For me, funerals tend to focus the mind on the brevity of life on one hand, and the celebration of life on the other. Life can take away a lot of things but it can't take away your memories. I've just been visiting with my good friend Christian Evans looking at a sizeable collection of photographs from the days that we used to see Kelly G a lot and also our back stage visit with ELO Part II back in 1993. That was a true lifetime ambition fulfilled so today I've been thinking about the blessings I've been granted in my life and the gift of association with those souls who have crossed my path.

So, when I think of the tapestry of encounters in my own lifetime, I can only thank God for His grace (unmerited favour) and His gift of the love of music to me. And not only in my 'temporal' experiences but also, of course, in the spiritual aspects of life. Thank you for crossing my path folks!

Positive Signals for Expanded Secret Messages Set

#9: Hello again folks! Here's an interesting recent quote from a certain ELO mailing list that Yours Truly KJS believes not only justifies the initial reasoning behind the establishment of ELO Beatles Forever (ELOBF) but also gives Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) fans confidence that "Beatles Forever" might see the light of day:

"Nothing can be released without Jeff Lynne's approval including the Collectors Edition of Secret Messages which includes the original unreleased 2LP version (including "Beatles Forever"), the released 1LP version and more. As with all the Legacy 1st edition remasters from 2001 (Eldorado, Discovery, Time and Secret Messages), there are full proposals in with SonyBMG for upgraded 2CD Deluxe Collectors Editions."

The Light Still Shines On

#8: Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The funeral for Kelly Groucutt will be held on Monday 9th March in Coseley near Wolverhampton but rest assured that there will also be other opportunities to pay tribute to Mick 'Kelly' Groucutt. Aside from the forthcoming UK tour by The Orchestra (former members of ELO & ELO Part II) and their hometown gig at Dudley Town Hall on Sunday 10th May, there is another ELO related tour taking place on these shores this Spring with Phil Bates and Mik Kaminski joined by Tina McBain (of The Eleanor Rigby Experience) entitled the Beatles, Blues & Blue Violin Project.
I'm sure that there will be ample time for bands and fans alike during both tours to remember and honour the contribution of Kelly Groucutt to the ELO genre. Yours Truly KJS will be in attendance at The Robin 2 in Bilston for the Blue Violin gig on Wednesday 11th March (which really will be a case of ELO Beatles Forever) and The Orchestra gig at Dudley in May. Being as Kelly and Mik were band mates in not a few projects with Phil Bates and others, I expect both concerts will be moving, touching and emotional.
